A Celebrated Marriage

They were forever in conflict, naturally,
trying to possess one another,
but failing, and in that abiding failure,
they saved their modern love.

the muscle’s tension in their tug-of-war—
and from that tension came heat,
from that heat came excitement
and more heat, which they resolved
in a great compromise called marriage.
